A Gnani cannot teach the seeker anything but he makes him realize the truth hidden by the ‘I’, which is the dualistic illusion or Maya.+

Ignorant in his own ignorance trying to snub others by holding his accumulated knowledge as a yardstick.
What we don't know is hidden by what we know.  A  Gnani has discovered the hidden reality by identifying the Self as a Soul.
A Gnani cannot teach the seeker anything but he makes him realize the truth hidden by the ‘I’, which is the dualistic illusion or Maya.
When the seeker Inquires into the nature of the ‘I’ then he will realize the ‘Self’ hidden by the illusory ‘I’.  The ‘I’ itself is the dualistic illusion or Maya.  When the ‘Self’ is not ‘I’ or ‘you’  but the ‘Self is the Soul then what is the use of saying I am not the body, I am not the mind, I am not this or I am not that.
What is the use of saying ‘I AM THAT’ without knowing what the ‘Self’ is in actuality? Without knowing the truth of the Self, without realizing the truth of the world in which you exist it is impossible to realize the truth hidden by the illusory form, time, and space. By a mere utterance of the word ‘I AM THAT', the truth will not be revealed.
Self-knowledge or Brahma Gnana or Atma Gnana has nothing to do with the ‘I-centric' or You-centric’   Gurus and their teachings.
Remember, the ‘I’ is not an individual because the ‘I’ is the whole universe. Limiting the ‘I’ to individuality is the cause of experiencing the dualistic illusion as reality?
The nature of the ‘I’ is the nature of the mind.

The nature of the mind is the nature of the universe.

The nature of the universe is the nature of the waking.

The nature of waking is the nature of the illusion.

Thus, it is necessary to study the nature of the ‘I’ to unfold the mystery of the universe.
All the teachings limit the ‘I’ to an individual and glorify the ‘I’ without knowing what this ‘I’ is supposed to be in actuality. All ‘I’ based teachings are inadequate and useless for the serious seeker of truth.
If you are seeking truth nothing but the truth must discard without mercy such teaching to progress in your spiritual quest.
The seeker must know the ‘I’ is not limited to individuality. The seeker has to see the ‘I’ as the universe, to overcome ignorance. When the Advaitic wisdom dawns, then the ignorance vanishes.
When ignorance vanishes and the dualistic illusion (world) you used to think as reality becomes unreal.
Remember:~
First Mundaka - Chapter 2 (8) - Fools, dwelling in darkness, but wise in their own conceit and puffed up with vain scholarship, wander about, being afflicted by many ills, like blind men led by the blind.
Swami Vivekananda: ~ “The wicked are always looking for defects. Flies come and seek for the ulcer, and bees come only for the honey in the flower. Do not follow the way of the fly but that of the bee.
Instead of finding fault first realize what the Self is in actuality. Honest introspection will reveal that all fault lies with “you” and “your "own perceptions and attitudes. If there is an error in understanding what 'Self' is in actuality it is in “you".
Correcting this and changing to a Soulcentric attitude will change your perception and then the Soul; the 'Self' will reveal its formless, timeless, and spaceless true nature. If you are unable to grasp the truth hidden by the ‘I’ then you will never be able to grasp nonduality or Advaita.
Remember:~
It is 'you' who is born in this world. It is you who is living in this world. And it is you who is going to die in this world in the future. Your birth, life, death, and the world in which you exist have nothing to do with the Self because the Self is not you but the Soul, the unborn eternal.
The Soul, the Self is hidden by the world in which you exist. It is hidden because the world in which you exist is merely a dualistic illusion or Maya created out of the Soul, the Self, which is present in the form of consciousness. Without the consciousness, you and the world in which you exist cease to exist.
Whatever you have seen, known, believed, and experienced within this illusory world is nothing but an illusion created out of consciousness.
Consciousness is ever-present. Without consciousness, the world, in which you exist ceases to exist.   The consciousness is Self-evident. It is not established by extraneous proofs. It is not possible to deny consciousness, because it is the very essence of the one who denies it. Consciousness is the basis of all kinds of knowledge, presuppositions, and proofs. Consciousness is everything. Thus, consciousness is the ultimate truth or Brahman.
Whatever you have seen, known, believed, and experienced as a person within the waking experience is bound to be an illusion created out of the consciousness.  Thus, the Soul, which is present in the form of consciousness alone, is real and eternal.
Remember:~
People sit in judgment over the Advaita on the dualistic perspective, therefore; they will never be able to overcome ignorance. Without getting rid of ignorance it is impossible to realize the Advaitic truth, which is beyond form, time, and space.
Katha Upanishad: ~ Some fools think they are wise and learned. They run around on various tortuous paths, like the blind led by the blind”.  [1.2.5]

People think they are well-read, they have mastered all philosophies and they know everything on every subject of the world, this ‘I’ know attitude blocks their realization. Their accumulated egocentric knowledge is based on the dualistic perspective whereas the    Self-knowledge or Brahma Gnana or Atma Gnana is based on the nondualistic perspective. The dualistic knowledge is of the dualistic illusion.
Sage Sankara says: ~ VC-162- There is no liberation for a person of mere book knowledge, howsoever well-read in the philosophy of Vedanta, so long as one does not give up the false identification with the body, sense organs, etc., which are unreal.
People dwelling in ignorance but thinking themselves wise and erudite, go round and round by various blind beliefs and tortuous paths and practices, like the blind led by the blind.
This ‘I know’ attitude must go and must be replaced by earnest endeavor first to secure the necessary competence to acquire Self-knowledge or Brahma Gnana or Atma Gnana.
A perfect understanding of ‘what is what’ is needed. Only an intense urge to know the truth, humility sincerity, and patience are the only qualifications to realize God in this very life and in this very world.
Drop your entire accumulated knowledge drop all the physical Gurus, the Soul the inner Guru, is waiting for you to take the first step for you to realize there are no more steps.
You will realize your body and your experience of the world are nothing but consciousness thus you will realize that God in truth (Soul) is the fullness of consciousness. Everything is God nothing but God. Do not waste time attending sermons and Satsang.
Real Satsanga reflects on the Soul which is the ultimate truth or Brahman or God in truth.
It takes time for the seeker to gain a perfect understanding of ‘what is the truth?’ and ‘’what is untruth?’.
As you raft upon which you cross the swift river to get to the other side; once you are on the other side of the shore; there is no longer any need to carry the raft. The far shore is the reality when you reach it, you can see quite clearly that there was never any river at all. : ~ Santthosh Kumaar
