When ‘I’ itself is an illusion what is the use of saying ‘I AM THAT’ without knowing what is real in actuality.+

By inquiring ‘WHO AM ‘I’? or by saying ‘I AM THAT’, without knowing ‘what is this ‘I’, one will not realize the truth, which is beyond the form, time, and space.
The ‘I’ exists only when the form, time, and space are present. When the Self is not the ‘I’ but the ‘Self is ‘I –less Soul, then whatever based on the ‘I’, is bound to be an illusion.
Thus, the ‘I-less Soul is permanent and eternal, because the Soul is ever formless, timeless and spaceless existence.
Remember:~
By hugging the Guru, you may feel happy and peaceful, emotionally, but by hugging a Guru you will not get Self-realization.
Self-realization is not possible through mentally getting involved with a Guru. The emotional is the greatest obstacle in realizing the truth which is beyond the form, time, and space.
The emotions and feelings are possible physical existence, whereas the ‘Self’ is the formless, timeless and spaceless existence.
From the standpoint of the Soul, the  Self, the physical existence (duality or the world) itself is an illusion.
All these hugging pursuits are meant for those who are in search of temporary peace of mind in the practical life within the practical world and it is not for those who are seriously searching the truth of their true existence.
The seeker has to realize the hugging, the Guru who hugs and the world in which they exist is created out of single stuff. The knowledge of the single stuff is Self-knowledge or Brahma Gnana or Athma Gnana.
By hugging and laughing, ignorance, will not vanish. Without getting rid of ignorance, Advaitic wisdom will not dawn. Without Advaitic wisdom, the dualistic illusion will prevail as a reality.
Ignorance of the 'Self’ will block you from realizing the Self, which is ever the formless, timeless, and spaceless existence.   When ‘I’ itself is an illusion what is the use of saying ‘I AM THAT’ without knowing what is real in actuality.  All the ‘I-centric Gurus and their teaching will block your realization of the ‘Self’ hidden by the ‘I’.
If you are serious in your quest for truth you have to discard all the ‘I-centric’ Gurus and their teaching.

By emotionally getting involved with the ‘I-centric’ Gurus and their teaching you are blocking your realization of the ‘Self’ hidden by the ‘I’.

Remember ‘I’ is the dualistic illusion.

That is why Bhagavad Gita: ~ ‘The permanent (consciousness) is always there, only the transient ‘I’ comes and goes. (2.18)

The ‘I’ hides the Soul, the Self, which is present in the form of consciousness.

Bhagvad Gita: ~ “You must first see the ‘I’ as illusory before you see others as illusory. ~ CH.2 v.16

First, you must make sure the ‘I’ itself is illusory because the ‘I’ is not permanent.

Sage Sankara says: ~ “The exercise in discrimination between real and unreal and renunciation of the false is real meditation, then why you are indulging in other types of meditation.

A perfect understanding and realization of ‘what is what’ leads Self-awareness. By holding onto theories one remains in the realm of duality.

You have to mentally go on dropping what is not the truth through deeper self-search.

Finally when you become aware of the fact that, your ego, your body, and the world are one in essence then there is Self-awareness in the midst of dualistic illusion.

Remember:~

Without knowing what the ‘Self’ is in actuality what is the use of saying ‘I AM THAT.

It is impossible to be the ‘Self’ without realizing the ‘Self’ is not you but the Soul, which is present in the form of consciousness.

You and the world in which you exist belong to the dualistic illusion. The dualistic illusion is present in the form of the ‘I’.  The ‘I’ hides the Soul, the Self.

You are born, lives and dies within the illusory world.   You are the birth entity.  You are born, live dies in this world. You are not the ‘Self’ because the ‘Self’ is the Soul, which is birthless and deathless.

The Self is not an individual but the Self is the Soul,   therefore,   the individual experience of birth, life and death, and the world is nothing to do with the Soul, Self, which is birthless deathless because it is ever formless, timeless and spaceless existence.

From the dualistic perspective, the individual experience of birth, life, death, and the world is reality whereas, from the non-dualistic perspective, the individual experience of birth, life, death and the world is an illusion.

When the world in which you exist is created out of the ‘Self’ which not you but the Soul, which is present in the form of the consciousness then whatever you have seen, known, believed and experienced is bound to be consciousness.

Like an ornament made from gold is Gold, which is born out of consciousness is consciousness. Like gold is the permanent thing, in ornaments made of gold, similarly, the mind, which is in the form of the universe is born out of consciousness, is consciousness in its essence. : ~ Santthosh Kumaar
